Irrigation Foreman

Irrigation foreman is responsible for but not limited to,

  • Providing workers with assistance in performing duties as necessary to meet deadlines.
  • Recommend changes in working conditions or equipment use to increase crew efficiency.
  • Order the performance of corrective work when problems occur and recommend procedural changes to avoid such problems.
  • Confer with other supervisors to coordinate work activities with those of other departments or units.
  • Establish and enforce operating procedures and work standards that will ensure adequate performance and personnel safety.
  • Inventory supplies of tools, equipment, or materials to ensure that sufficient supplies are available and items are in usable condition.
  • Investigate work-related complaints to verify problems and to determine responses.  Inspect completed work to ensure conformance to specifications, standards, and contract requirements.
  • Prepare or maintain required records, such as work activity or personnel reports. Monitor project activities to ensure that instructions are followed, deadlines are met, and schedules are maintained.
  • Maintain required records, such as personnel information or project records. Schedule work for crews, depending on work priorities, crew or equipment availability, or weather conditions.
  • Direct or assist workers engaged in the maintenance or repair of equipment, such as power tools or motorized equipment.
  • Perform personnel-related activities, such as hiring workers, evaluating staff performance, or taking disciplinary actions when performance problems occur.
  • Review contracts or work assignments to determine service, machine, or workforce requirements for jobs.
  • Confer with managers or landscape architects to develop plans or schedules for landscaping maintenance or improvement.
  • Design or supervise the installation of sprinkler systems, calculating water pressure, or valve and pipe coverage needs.

On Call Duties

During snow events the foreman will be on call 12 hours before anticipated start time and 12 hours after job is complete for follow up and touch up of properties. He will be responsible for contacting his crew members and advising them on anticipated start and stop times for the event. Job duties may include shoveling sidewalks, plowing driveways, snow blowing, salting, commercial and residential snow removal.

The foreman will be responsible for filling out the snow/ice job report for every property.

Irrigation Technican

The main task of an irrigation technician is to install or maintain the irrigation equipment assigned to him or in a specific area.

This equipment can include sprinklers, water lines, pumps, suction devices, valves and other plumbing equipment. This equipment can sometimes be buried underground and must be excavated to be maintained, so irrigation technicians should be comfortable working with digging equipment such as backhoes, shovels and augers.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/up to 50 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must possess the visual acuity to operate equipment and motor vehicles, perform trades tasks, inspect the work of others, and review work for accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness.

Landscape Foreman

A landscape foreman oversees landscaping projects, as well as routine maintenance jobs. Depending on the size of the crew, the foreman’s primary function may be supervisory, or he might work alongside his crew to complete projects.

As the leader of a work crew, the foreman must be able to communicate effectively. He needs good people skills to work with his crew, his supervisors and homeowners. Foremen also must have strong organizational and time-management skills; the ability to follow directions; and good record-keeping skills to manage materials and expenses. Mechanical skills are necessary to make simple repairs.

The day-to-day responsibility for landscape foreman includes

  • The supervision of the daily operations of crews including interviewing and hiring staff and evaluating performance;
  • Plan and design landscaping and grounds maintenance activities;
  • Insure work is accomplished according to plan and schedule;
  • Troubleshoot problem areas of grounds maintenance; requisition and inventory tools, supplies, and equipment; organize budget data for cost/expenditure estimates; and insure safety practices are followed.
  • Ability to plan and organize work, including creating/ communicating / executing the work plan, and communicating all aspects of the job to the customer.

 

The landscape foreman is responsible for maintaining all equipment and keeping inventory records for all equipment. This includes all tools and machinery.

Landscape Laborer

Landscape laborers are responsible for modifying the terrain of a property in a number of ways. Depending on the job, they may trim trees and bushes, mulch gardens, spread fertilizer or dig holes. They also install patios, decks and walkways as well as sprinkler and lighting systems. Landscape laborers may water plants, mow lawns and perform other maintenance tasks.

Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
